4H was very useful to me and my family the UW-Extension is under funded since 2011. My Father Grandfather and I all successfully took classes. Grandpa and I are UW graduates and past participants in the wonderful 4-H or 4H fellowship.
I would have appreciated a personal response and the opportunity to reschedule......
I signed up on line for an extended studies class but could not arrange my schedule to attend so I did not pay for the class in advance based on the notation that "if you don't pay for the class you will lose your seat".
Simple really.
I have written the people that operate the event that Howard Rosen was involved with to ask that they review the process for future candidates and require Mr. Rosen to ask for a non refundable fee at registration instead of implementing a poorly defined follow up cost. I would have been more than happy to comply with this and most likely wouldn't have pre-registered until my schedule was clear - but "seats were limited", so I decided I'd better hold a seat.
An admin told me that the enrollment form allowed for an administrative fee and that this action was approved by Howard Rosen. I have written several communications asking him to contact me to discuss options, but he ignored my inquiries and followed with additional invoices. He is evidently to busy to respond.
They Just don't care....
Needless to say, make sure you read the fine print for these folks, and be aware of what you sign up for in advance. Poor business practices and lousy follow up. Seems like they really don't care about anything but the revenue.
In the end, I am going to write a check to keep them from trashing my credit.
After the class was over, I was surprised to receive a bill for administrative costs - totally out of left field. I immediately contacted the university to find out what was up.
